Yaima Carrazana |

In the count-down for the opening of Artpocalypse Collective this Sunday let me tell you something about the work of Yaima Carrazana. Yaima will show three sculptures in the groupshow Unveiled Identity Unveiled titled ‘Objects of Catharsis’. Yaima was born in Cuba and immigrated to Europe four years ago. In general Yaima’s work is related to her personal reactions of situations in her life. Her latest work, which will be at display in the gallery, expresses her concerns about the idea of identity. ‘Objects of Catharis’ are alterations of objects Yaima found in Amsterdam and which refer to her background. By altering these found objects she transforms them into a turning point: the objects get a theatrical and therapeutic meaning by referring to them as objects of catharsis. The three sculptures in the groupshow are all alterations of a horse head. The significance of the horse in the Cuban context is directly related to a person in power. Yaima turns these visions of power into a object of protest or something hurtful. Here’s an image of one of the ‘Objects of Catharsis’:
